Contact list sync issues

Viber syncs with your phone’s contact list so, as long as the person who you would like to add appears in your phone’s contact list, they will appear in your Viber contacts with a Viber badge next to their name.

Sometimes your sync may be delayed, or even disrupted. In these cases, please see the tips below to jump start your sync.


None of my contacts appear in my Viber contact list
  • Make sure that you have a strong Wi-Fi, 3G or 4G connection. Viber will only sync when there is an adequate internet connection
  • Make sure the contacts you expect to see in your Viber contact list are Viber users. If they are not Viber users, they will not appear in the Viber contact list.
  • Refresh the Viber contact list by pulling the screen down and releasing
  • Check your device settings for which contacts to display. Select "All contacts" in order for Viber to recognize all of your contacts (on iPhone, go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Import SIM contacts)
  • From your device contact list, remove a contact you know for sure is a Viber user > Add them back to your device contact list > Check your Viber contact list to see if the sync has occurred
  • Restart your device 
  • If none of the above solves the issue, uninstall Viber and re-install


I am missing a some contacts or a specific contact from my Viber contact list
  • Make sure you have the latest version of Viber installed. Need an upgrade?
  • Make sure you are looking at the Viber contact list, not the phone’s contact list
  • Make sure that you have entered your contacts phone number in your phone’s contact list in the format Country Code - Area Code - Phone Number
  • Refresh the Viber contact list by pulling the screen down and releasing
  • Restart your device
  • If none of the above solves the issue, uninstall Viber and re-install


Viber has been syncing for a very long time
  • Make sure you have the latest version of Viber installed. Need an upgrade?
  • Allow two to three minutes for the sync to take place
  • ​Sometimes, if you have a very long contact list, Viber will take longer to sync your contacts
  • Restart your device 
  • If none of the above solves the issue, uninstall Viber and re-install


How do I sync my contacts on Viber for Desktop? 
Contacts that are added or updated on your mobile device should sync automatically to Viber for Desktop. However, if you find that the sync has not occurred, please try some possible solutions below:
  • Ensure that you have a stable internet connection
  • From your device contact list, remove a contact you know for sure is a Viber user > Add them back to your device contact list > Check to see if the sync has occurred 
  • On your desktop, close the program and re-launch 
  • Restart both your mobile device and the desktop
  • As a final resort, deactivate and reactivate Viber for Desktop.
